After SchoolChildren who walk home from school are expected to leave the playground promptly and go directly home. There is no playground supervision after school. Any change in after school plans requires a written note to the teachers involved. Bicycles must be walked on school property. The school discourages children from bringing valuable toys to school. Toys that may cause harm will be held at the school for parents to claim.

Seawood School maintains a positive learning environment where staff, students and parents cooperate in a safe, caring environment. All students have the right to feel safe in school, on school property, and on their way to and from school. Students also have the responsibility to always give their best effort and to behave in an acceptable manner. All students are made aware of classroom and school ground rules and behavioral expectations early in the year. These rules and expectations are reinforced continually throughout the year. Teachers and/or the principal will deal with students who misbehave. This may involve taking away children's privileges, telephone calls to the parents, and/or disciplinary letters. Children who continue to misbehave may receive up to 2 warning letters before being suspended from school. Serious offenses such as fighting, physical aggression, swearing, and extreme disrespect will result in automatic suspension from school. No warning letters will be issued in these cases.
Students are assessed both formally and informally throughout the school year. A formal report card assessing student progress is sent home with the students three times a year, the first being sent in November, the second in March, and the third in June. Parent-teacher interviews accompany the November and March reports.
Seawood school will be providing a nutritious breakfast for our students this year. There will be cereal bars, and milk for anyone who hasn't had breakfast. Students are welcome to breakfast at 8:10 a.m. daily.
It is important for all parents/guardians of Seawood School students to be aware of the fact there are students in our school who suffer from peanut allergies. Severity of the allergies range from watering of the eyes to anaphylactic shock. In extreme cases, loss of consciousness and death could occur without immediate medical assistance.
The school has an obligation to establish a safe environment for all students; thus, an emergency plan has been developed for each of the students. We are requesting that parents avoid including peanuts and peanut products in lunches or snacks, including peanut butter. Thank you for your assistance in the IMPORTANT matter.
All schools in the Province of New Brunswick have an emergency plan, a procedure to follow in the case of a disaster. Depending upon the location of such a catastrophe, Seawood students would evacuate to either the Fundamental Baptist Church on Dannells Drive or to Havelock School on the corner of Young and HavelockStreet, if the evacuation was for a large surrounding area.
It may become necessary for students to take medication during school hours. If this medication is to be administered or Supervised by a teacher, the parent/guardian of that student must complete a consent form authorizing the teacher to do so. A form from the physician may also be required.
Head lice among school children has become very common. Because head lice is easily transmitted, it is necessary to exclude the affected student from school until all traces of the nits(eggs) have been removed from the hair. A variety of treatment choices are available at any pharmacy. Parents are asked to check their child's hair at least once a week for the presence of nits. **It is important to remember that head lice show no particular preference - rich or poor; clean or dirty. Anyone can become infected.** Please let the school know if you discover nits or lice.
Winter will be upon us soon enough. Please dress your children according to the weather. When the weather is inclement and the opening of school is questionable, please listen to the local radio stations for possible school closure announcements. All efforts are made to have the necessary information to the radio station prior to its 6:30 a.m. broadcast. You may also obtain this information by phoning 643-snow (7669).
If the children are in attendance at school and the weather deteriorates to the extent that the school must close early, parents/guardians will be informed via the media. In the event that school closes unexpectedly for any reason, and children are sent home early, it is vital that you have a plan that has been clearly communicated to your child. Children should know a neighbor to approach, or have an alternate place to shelter. There are a limited number of telephones available at such times, so please pre-arrange your early closure plan. Make sure that your child's teacher has this information and that you inform us of any changes. The ultimate decision of whether or not your child should attend school on questionable weather days lies with you, the parent/guardian. Absences on these days will not be a factor in the students' attendance record.
A Lost & Found box is located in the corridor right outside the office. Lost and found articles are kept in the box a reasonable period of time. If not claimed after this period, the articles are donated to charity.
As a school, we try to do our part to maintain a clean and healthy environment. To that end, we have in place containers to recycle juice boxes and bottles. We also recycle all our paper.
On January 1, 2000, a scent-free policy was implemented in all schools in District 8. This policy applies to all students, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
Milk and lunch order forms are sent home with the students monthly for the entire month. Hot lunch is offered twice a week. On Tuesdays, we offer Burger King hamburgers $1.50 cheeseburgers $2.00. On Thursdays, we offer Greco Pizza at $1.25 per slice. Chocolate and white milk are also offered day for 35cents. More information and order forms will be sent home the first week of September. All orders must be sent into the school before the end of each month for the next month. The exact payment should be sent as no change will be forwarded home. Sorry no late orders will be accepted past the due date as they do cause a lot of problems with missed orders.
